Infrastructure

The MICROKELVIN infrastructure is a distributed network of 3 leading European low temperature laboratories. The laboratories were identified based on their capacity to provide access for sub-mK experiments. The total amount of EU-funded access is 81 user-months.

  • Rotating nuclear refrigerator with 300 µK superfluid 3He temperature Stationary nuclear refrigerator with 10 µK nuclear stage temperature
  • 2 dilution refrigerators (20 mK)
  • 2 pulse-tube cooler based dilution refrigerators (20 mK, 0-10 GHz)
  • Magnetometer model MPMS 5T (1.6 - 400 K and 0 - 5 Tesla)

  • 100 visitor-hours in a professional cleanroom

  • Nuclear refrigerator 2 with superfluid 3He temperature of 80 µK and nuclear stage temperature of 10 µK
  • Nuclear refrigerator 3 with superfluid 3He temperature of 80 µK and nuclear stage temperature of 6 µK

Objectives

The primary objective of the present project is the opening up of existing European microkelvin facilities, developed for quantum fluids experiments, to allow experimental nanoscience to progress to this new temperature regime.
